COME OUT AND CAST A LINE, CATCH FISH AND WIN PRIZES!
The Ship Creek Fishery is open to 24-hour fishing for what some consider the best fighting salmon.
The Bait Shack Community Events with the 6th Annual Ship Creek Coho Derby that captures the excitement of the silver salmon summer end blitz.
The Coho Rodeo is scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 7am - 7pm on the banks of Ship Creek. Join us for the awards presentation at 8pm-ish over at Kings Landing!
Anglers will have the opportunity to cast a line to help others, while also fishing for a chance to win cash prizes.
Local anglers and out-of-state visitors are eligible to participate in the Derby. To participate, a derby ticket must be purchased prior to fishing. Tickets will be available for $25 each at the Derby headquarters that will be located at The Bait Shack at 212 W. Whitney Road.
After catching silver salmon, the angler must bring their catch to Derby Headquarters for official weigh-in. Anglers may enter up to 3 silver salmon. (proxy fishing is not eligible for this derby)
The top 6 heaviest stringer weights will win cash prizes:
1st Place: $1,000
2nd Place: $500
3rd Place: $250
4th Place: $125
5th Place: $75
6th Place: $50
Fishing rods, tackle, and other prizes will also be awarded to anglers with the 1st fish, heaviest fish and smallest fish by weight.
Anglers must have the appropriate 2026 State of Alaska Sport Fishing License.
The Coho Rodeo is part of The Bait Shack Community Events, a series of community fishing events in Anchorage. Upcoming events include a second Ship Creek cleanup in the fall, and the Jewel Lake Jamboree ice fishing event next February.
